The 4th of July, 2006 Sunspot Page

I got the 4th & 5th of July, 2006 off work. It was cloudy both nights, but was partially clear during the day so I decided to take a look at the sun, which had been quite quiet lately. To my surprise there was a large sunspot visible. Having recently built an adaptor to use my 5" Solar Filter on the 8" scope I was anxious to try it out. Below are some photos of the sunspot and my setup.

Here's the setup for Solar viewing. I'm using a solar filter for a C-90. I added the mask
using a litewieght corrugated plastic I picked up for a couple of bucks at Pat Catan's.
It slips on the front of the scope and is held in place with a friction fit.
The DANGER signs are there for use at star parties and public viewings.

Here's a short video showing my solar setup.
Right-click the link to view and/or download the Windows wmv file.
It's about 3.5meg in size and takes about 15 seconds to download with a
broadband connection.
