Ann O'Neale Information Correction
Here's a correction we all need to
make in our Family History. We show Ann O'Neale, daughter of William O'Neale
and Elizabeth Lodge marrying Samuel Spates.
There is a record of an Anna Maria
O'Neale marrying a Samuel Spates, but it turns out it was not Ann, daughter
of William & Eliza. We can also find an Anna Maria Spates living in
Rockville in 1865 nearby where Ann, Catherine and Eleanor O'Neale, daughters
of William and Eliza are believed to be living.
Ann O'NEALE
Birth: 8 Mar 1791 (1)
Death: 6 Aug 1870 (2)
Father: William O'NEALE b: 30 Mar
1769 in Montgomery County, Maryland
Mother: Elizabeth LODGE b: 19 Jul
1769

Here's why we think our Ann O'Neale did not marry Samuel Spates.
Montgomery County Marriage Records at the Sween Library show that Anna Maria O'Neale married Samuel Spates in 1817.
In an excerpt from the trust of William O'Neale dated 1827 we find the following:
"To have and hold real & personal property in trust for use of Elizabeth (Lodge) O'Neale, wife of Wm. O'Neale and after her death for benefit of: Ann O'Neale, Elizabeth West, Mary Jones, Joanna Peddicord, Sarah Nicholls, Catherine O'Neale, Eleanor O'Neale, all daughters of Wm. O'Neale; and the heirs of their bodies, as tenants in common."
Notice that Williams' married daughters were all referred to by their
married names. Elizabeth WEST, Mary JONES, Joanna PEDDICORD and Sarah NICHOLLS.
This tells me that Ann, Catherine and Eleanor were unmarried (spinsters)
in 1827.
