THE TOGA MAIL LIST (Continued)

Since starting the list we have already learned some valuable information about our ancestors.

On March 21st, Cindy Ross asked:
Does anyone know anything more about the ancestry of Martha (Rachel) O'Neal? She married Henry Shaw and is listed in the James Shaw family tree on the O'Neal web site.

Since we did not know anything further about Martha I asked if anyone on the list
could check the 1860 Census and see if Martha would show up.

On March 25th Greg Anderson responded with the following,
Eureka as we say in California when we strike gold! I found her and her family. After searching in the 1860 U.S. census in PA Bedford county Monroe Twp for aobut 3 hours I ran accross a lot of possible O'neal families.
However =, On page 397 this is what I found

John H O'Neal 35 M Farmer 1500 250 PA
Susan 33 F PA
Mary 11 F PA
Jam_ia 11 F PA ( twin)
Martha 8 F PA
Sarah 6 F PA
George M 4 M PA
Simon 2 M PA
I hope that helps Cindy in what she is looking for.

On March 7th Bev Crowe asked:
Hello List, Looking for information and family of Dr. Harvey O誰eal b 19 May 1818, in Barren Co. Kentucky, son of  Bennet and Ann Sally Embry O誰eal(e).  Harvey married first Ann B Beesley, second Charlotte E. West (both marriages in Cass Co. Illinois).
Harvey was also the manager of the railroad depot in Bath, Mason Co., Illinois circa 1860.  Harvey and Charlotte, along with their 4 children, James C., Josephine (Helen), Charles, and Richard were listed in the 1860 Mason Co., Illinois census.

On March 21st she posted the following information:
Hi List, Thank you to Ken O誰eal for providing some additional information on Harvey O誰eal, son of Bennet O誰eal. The following is from the History of Mason County Illinois, LDS Film #1,000,507:
Harvey was a physician and graduated with honors from the St. Louis Medical College in 1843.  He began his practice in Virginia, Cass Co. Illinois and later located in Bath, Illinois where he practiced for twenty years, until poor health forced him to retire in 1864.  He bought a farm after his retirement as a physician.  Harvey was also a member of the Masonic Fraternity.
Since Harvey stayed and raised his children in southern Illinois, did his children then stay in that area?  The children I have listed for Harvey & Charlotte West O誰eal; James C, Josephine Helen, Charles, and Richard.

On March 20th, I received information from Suzanne Mozley on the family
of Phillip O'Neal. Thanks to Shirley Moller  from the St Mary's List, we have some new information on Ann O'Neal and Sam Middleton. (Jo O'Neill, William O'Neale, William O'Neale, Jr, Ann O'Neal.) You can view this new info on the web site or on the TOGA Mail List Archives.

I think these example aptly illustrate how much we can help each other by using the mail list. So, if you have run into a brick wall, get on the list and see if someone else can help you tear down that wall.
