THE James O'Neal Cemetery Project Update

Cousin Ken O'Neal has been actively working toward gathering materials to update the James O'Neal Cemetery. He has worked out the details for access
to the cemetery with the landowner and is looking at different material to build a fence around the site.

The importance of this project was driven home recently when I received the following email from cousin Harriet Clapper.

Hi Everyone.
Just in case you have not heard.  Glenn was in Cumberland Valley and
talked to a man by the name of McCoy about the Nave graves.  Mr. McCoy
remembers the graves.  He called them the Nave/Miller cemetery. Anyway, Mr. McCoy told Glenn that the farm that the cemetery was on was sold.  He said
the graves were there when this sale took place but some time afterwards they were GONE.  Mr. McCoy said that someone had pulled the stones up and threw them over a bank.  He said his sons tried to find the stones but couldn't. This was probably Christian, Barbara and Nicholas plus others. (In the graves.) I guess we will never know now when Nicholas died.  Looks like my history is lost forever......Harriet

I've heard stories like this before but they've always happened to someone else's cemetery. This was too close to home for comfort and started me to thinking how important our cemetery project is.

We could still use additional cash donations and workers for the work party to be held this fall. If you'd like to help us protect a valuable piece of our heritage and one of our ancestor's final resting places, please contact cousin Ken O'Neal at kon@hhs.net.
