THE O'NEAL GENEALOGY ASSOCIATION EXPEDITION
Many months of planning are about to come to fruition as the very first TOGA EXPEDITION begins. The O'Neal Genealogy Association members will be spending a week doing research in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia.
The TOGA Expedition will begin on Friday the 26th in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. Armed with metal detectors, we're going to revisit the Emanuel O'Neal Homestead. Hopefully we'll find an artifact or two to bring home as a souvenir.
On Saturday, the 27th, we'll be traveling to Bedford County, Pennsylvania for the James O'Neal Cemetery Dedication, and
On Sunday, the 28th we'll be attending the annual Descendants of Peter O'Neal Reunion at the Old Frame Church.
On Monday Kenneth O'Neal is going to lead a tour group around Bedford County where we will visit the numerous O'Neal plots and cemeteries and other O'Neal sites of interest. Monday night we'll depart for Rockville, Maryland. Rockville is the home of The Montgomery County Historical Society and we're hoping to find lots of new information on our Montgomery County Ancestors while visiting there.
Tuesday evening we're hoping to meet up with a cousin who lives on O'Neal land that's been in the family for several generations and was passed down from Laurence O'Neale.
Wednesday we'll be visiting The Annapolis Hall of Records. We'll be
armed with laptops, Zip drives, read-write cd's, voice recorders, digital
cameras, scanners,
pencils, tablets, and pockets full of quarters for the photocopy machines.
We're hoping that we can find information on the Saint Mary's and Calvert
County O'Neals at Annapolis.
From there we'll proceed to Georgetown University. Residing there are the records of Rose O'Neale Greenhow, including a Family Tree traced by Rose herself.
On Friday we'll be in Culpeper, Virginia. A lot of the second and third generation O'Neale's left Maryland and resided in Culpeper, Virginia where we lost track of them. We've always suspected that these O'Neale's moved south and west and may be the progenitors of some of the Georgia, Kentucky, Carolina O'Neal families.
Hopefully, we'll have lots of new information to share next month. Of course, we'll do a full report on the expedition in the newsletter.
