Notes from the Josiah Henson Book

Page 1
I WAS born, June 15, 1789, in Charles County, Maryland, on a farm belonging to Mr. Francis N*., about a mile from Port Tobacco. My mother was the
property of Dr. Josiah McP**., but was hired by Mr. N., to whom my father belonged.
*Mr. Francis N was Francis Newman.
**Dr. Josiah McP was Dr. Josiah McPherson.

After passing his youth (Isaac Riley) in the manner I have mentioned in a general way, and which I do not wish more particularly to describe, my master, at the age of forty-five, or upwards, married a young woman of eighteen, who had some little property, and more thrift. (Matilda Middleton) Her economy was remarkable, and was certainly no addition to the comfort of the establishment.
Note: Isaac was born in 1774 and Matilda was born in 1800. They married in 1818, making him abt 44 and her 18 years old. We learned of Isaac and Matilda's wedding from an entry in the Bible of William O'Neale.
