Comet Boattini

After getting news

from John R about how dim the Comet was from Arizona last week, I wasn’t expecting too much.

Fortunately, Charlemont has a wonderful southern horizon. See the photos below showing the

horizon southeast………………………………………………………………………..then southwest.

While setting up I saw some wildlife and took a couple of shots. It certainly was peaceful there.

Left, Canadian Goose…………………………Center, Swallow………………………………Right, Buzzard

About 11:30pm a local farmer saw me and stopped to see if I was ok or needed help. He really enjoyed seeing Saturn

and Mars and the Moon, close-up for the first time.

Like John R. said, the comet was really dim. Combine that with the fact that the Moon was quite close by and the comet

was only about ten degrees from the horizon and I’m surprised I got a shot at all. But here it is………

Note to BRAS Board members and Officers: In my opinion we really need to pursue getting access to this site.

It is DARK, DARK, DARK there.

Electricity, a place to park and a concrete pad at this location would be

AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME.

Astronomically, John
